Patriotic Smoothie

Happy Independence Day!


Thought I’d share a tasty, fun recipe in honor of this day!

I mixed each section separately to get the swirling colors, you can do the same or just blend all ingredients and drink.  Pretty simple and healthy!

To make each separately and then mix, do the following:

1.  Blended strawberries with 1/4 c of  almond milk, set aside in separate glass.

2.  Blended banana, yogurt, protein powder and 1/2 c of almond milk, set aside in separate glass.

3.  Blended blackberries and blueberries with remaining almond milk, set aside in separate glass.

4.  Poured in Red (so at bottom of glass), then white, then blue.

Drink and Enjoy!

I used unsweetened almond milk but you can use, rice, soy or even non-fat milk.  I used 1/3 scoop of vanilla protein powder and added plain non-fat greek yogurt for some thickness.  But if you don’t have or want the yogurt, replace with 1 full scoop of protein, and if you don’t have protein powder, just use yogurt.

I freeze ripe bananas and strawberries because it allows me to save them for later use, and not waste it.   I don’t like a lot of ice in my smoothies, so I use frozen fruit when I have it, too much ice makes it hard to drink and too frothy at the top for me, so here you go.  Hope you find the tips helpful and enjoy it.
